According to the analyst company Gartner, Salesforce.com has become the first pure play cloud company to enter the list of top 10 IT software companies in terms of revenue generated. Gartner research VP, Joanne Correia, has noted in the report that the software market has been changing at a rapid pace over the past five years and the bulk of the changes have been related to cloud computing. Majority of the software and application vendors develop application based on the cloud computing environment and the Internet of things movement. Salesforce.com is the only new entrant to the top 10 list with a revenue growth of 33.3% achieved over the last one year.
Salesforce.com has a turnover of $3.8 billion in 2013 when compared to $2.9 billion in 2012. VMware with a 14.1% growth and SAP with a 9.5% growth are the next fastest growing companies in the top 10 list in terms of annual turnover. Microsoft continues its hold as the number one software company in terms of revenues. Oracle has managed to push IBM to the third spot and has jumped to the second spot. Incidentally, both Oracle and IBM wanted to position their companies as cloud first companies in the last few quarters.
